What is Fresco ??

Facebook launch an image library software named Fresco which is a powerful system for displaying images in Android applications. It takes care of image loading and display so you don't have to.Fresco's image pipeline will load images from the network, local storage, or local resources. To save data and CPU, it has three levels of cache; two in memory and another in internal storage.Fresco's Drawees show a placeholder for you until the image has loaded and automatically show to the image when it arrives. When the image goes off-screen, it automatically releases its memory.

Displaying images quickly and efficiently on Facebook for Android is important. Yet we have had many problems storing images effectively over the years. Images are large, but devices are small. Each pixel takes up 4 bytes of data — one for each of red, green, blue, and alpha. If a phone has a screen size of 480 x 800 pixels, a single full-screen image will take up 1.5 MB of memory. Phones often have very little memory, and Android devices divide up what memory they have among multiple apps. On some devices, the Facebook app is given as little as 16 MB — and just one image could take up a tenth of that!

What happens when your app runs out of memory? It crashes. We set out to solve this by creating a library we're calling Fresco — it manages images and the memory they use. Crashes begone.

Effects on Memory :

A decompressed image - an Android Bitmap - takes up a lot of memory. This leads to more frequent runs of the Java garbage collector. This slows apps down. The problem is especially bad without the improvements to the garbage collector made in Android 5.0.

On Android 4.x and lower, Fresco puts images in a special region of Android memory. It also makes sure that images are automatically released from memory when they're no longer shown on screen. This lets your application run faster - and suffer fewer crashes.

Apps using Fresco can run even on low-end devices without having to constantly struggle to keep their image memory footprint under control.

Customize Loading :

Fresco's image pipeline lets you customize the load in a variety of ways:

  • Specify several different uris for an image, and choose the one already in cache for display
  • Show a low-resolution image first and swap to a higher-res one when it arrives
  • Send events back into your app when the image arrives
  • If the image has an EXIF thumbnail, show it first until the full image loads (local images only)
  • Resize or rotate the image
  • Modify the downloaded image in-place
  • Decode WebP images, even on older versions of Android that don't fully support them

Drawing Features :

Fresco uses Drawees for display. These offer a number of useful features:

  • Scale the image to a custom focus point, instead of the centre
  • Show the image with rounded corners, or a circle
  • Let users tap the placeholder to retry load of the image, if the network load failed
  • Show custom backgrounds, overlays, or progress bars on the image
  • Show a custom overlay when the user presses the image

Animations Related Features :

Animated GIFs and WebPs can be challenging for apps. Each frame is a large Bitmap, and each animation is a series of frames. Fresco takes care of loading and disposing of frames and managing their memory.

Streaming Related Features :

Progressive JPEG images have been on the Web for years. These let a low-resolution scan of the image download first, then gradually improve the quality as more of the image downloads. This is a lifesaver for users on slow networks.

Android's own imaging libraries don't support streaming. Fresco does. Just specify a URI, and your app will automatically update its display as more data arrives.

Most Useful Feature :- Open Source

Having built this elaborate tool set for image display and manipulation, we wanted to share it with the Android developer community. We are pleased to announce that, as of today, this project is now available as open source.

One of the main advantages of running the Android platform is its customization OS which is a lot freer and easier to do compared to other operating systems, like Apple’s iOS platform. But wait Now Other competitor also allow this feature with some extra features. As per announcement Cyanogen 12 (Lollipop-based) launched by the end of the month, the Cyanogen team announced two new features coming to the OS: individual app theming and paid themes.

Cyanogen has recently talk about the upcoming feature Of update on their blog and basically for those hearing about this for the first time, the App Themer feature will allow users to apply individual themes to their apps. Instead of a theme that is applied across the board, users can choose to theme individual apps according to your taste. This will be a useful feature for users who want to customize every detail of their smartphone, or for those who feel that there are some apps that just don’t fit into their overall theme.

First up, App Themer can let users choose specific themes for individual apps. Accessible from the Theme soul, the feature solely permits choosing one among the put in themes, thus you won’t be ready to manually tweak the looks of apps. However, the feature ought to still be terribly useful for the days once the system theme doesn’t look sensible on a selected app or once you merely like some apps to appear totally different. There’s no limit on what number apps you'll be able to theme or what number totally different themes you'll be able to use.

The second feature you don't like much because it is paid themes, which has long been requested by Cyanogen themes looking to monetize their work. Free themes will continue to be available, but it’s safe to assume that many high quality themes will be paid going forward. You will need a Play Store account to buy themes.

I predict that new features will roll out as part of the Cyanogen 12S update coming over the air to the OnePlus One on or before March end. The Yureka Yu and Alcatel OneTouch Hero 2+ will also receive the update via OTA in the coming weeks or months.

Xiaomi breaks the market with its high end and low cost mobiles and has been aggressively expanding its product portfolio in the past few months. We have already seen a new lineup of Mobiles, namely the top end Xiaomi Mi Note and now, it looks like Xiaomi may have another version of last year’s flagship Mi4 .

The Xiaomi Mi4 2GB edition was recently spotted on the Chinese certification website TENAA. Excite news is the phone has 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. On the other hand, the regular Xiaomi Mi4 version came with 3GB RAM and 16/64GB internal storage options.

The TENAA entry shows that there are three different version of this device made for three different carries in China namely, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom and all the models support 4G LTE networks. We expect rest of the specs to be similar to the regular model.

Xiaomi did the same with this year’s Redmi model, by offering a 2GB variant at a slightly higher price and more powerful features . And this process Looks like its going to do the same with Xiaomi Mi4 too.

No doubt, the major motto of reducing the specs is to bring down the cost and it is said that the Xiaomi Mi4 2GB edition will cost just about 1799 Yuan which comes to $289.

As per my opinion if this 2 Gb Model comes with dual sim and also different color options like redmi model than definitely create thunder in Mobile market. Because this flagship already creates history with its high end features and low prize tag.
